What can I say? I can hardly hold back my excitement for the new movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The movie will be released on December 18th, 2015. The closer it gets, the more I want to add Star Wars-related artwork to my website and YouTube channel. This Darth Vader Sharpie drawing is a result of my over-excitement.

Inspiration for this Sharpie drawing came from the Star Wars Darth Vader car mats my family gave me for Christmas. The car mats have this image of Darth Vader embedded into them. I think the mats are amazing, and ultimately, I decided it must be drawn.

And thus, this Sharpie Darth Vader drawing was finished in 30 seconds… HA, just kidding. It took me TWO FREAKING HOURS. It shouldn’t have taken me nearly as long as it did, but alas, twas mine own fault.

If you watch the video I posted below, you’ll see how often I erase… and redraw… and then erase… and redraw (etc…). But that’s just the first step. After I had it all penciled out, I used some Micron pens to trace over the lines multiple times, starting small and working my way up to a sharpie to fill..

TWO HOURS… *sigh*

But it’s ok. I was “in the moment”, so I wouldn’t have known how long it had taken me if I hadn’t looked at the recorded time. And besides, I’m excited about how it turned out. I think Operation “Draw negative space which tricks your mind into thinking there’s an actual image of Darth Vader” was a success.
