Black Friday Art Supply Deals

Halloween is over, and everyone is already getting ready for Christmas (sigh). But that means Black Friday is quickly approaching, and I can’t sit idly by while ArtNews.com ranks #1 in Google for “Black Friday Art supplies” by recommending 55-inch TVs (Seriously… how?).

So, I’ve taken it upon myself to recommend some Black Friday deals on art supplies to watch for that visual artists would actually be interested in. Or, at least, artists that are anything like me. Deals on mechanical pencil sets, drawing tablets, cameras, painting sets, etc… those kinds of things. So, here are some things that would be a great buy if they go on a killer Black Friday sale:

Mechanical Pencils and Sets

  • Pentel GraphGear 1000 Mechanical Drafting Kit $20.49 $14.95
    • If you’ve been here before, you know that the GraphGear 1000 is one of my top picks when it comes to the best mechanical pencils. You really can’t go wrong here, and it’s one of the most affordable even outside of Black Friday.
  • Pentel GraphGear 500 Mechanical Pencil $7.50 $5.27
    • Again, if you’ve read my article on the best mechanical pencils for sketching, you probably saw this coming. The Pentel Graphgear is my next choice for artists looking to buy a mechanical pencil, and you can get one now for just over five bucks.
  • Nicpro 22PCS Art Mechanical Pencils Set $21.99 $15.19
    • If you’re so broke that burglars feel bad enough to leave money for you instead of stealing from you, then this would be your best bet. This set has 4.7 stars on Amazon and is currently just over $15 and includes 5 pencils, lead, erasers, and more.
  • rOtring 600 Mechanical Pencil 0.7 mm $48.26 $21.62
    • If you’re a mechanical pencil connoisseur, then you’ve heard of rOtring. Their mechanical pencils aren’t cheap, but they’re very high-end, and it’ll be love at first sketch. If you’re getting art supply gifts on Black Friday and have the extra money, get the rOtring. They’ll go nuts for it.

Colored Pencil Sets

  • 150-Piece Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils $137.41 $112.87
    • Have you ever browsed Instagram and come across a piece of art so beautiful and so realistic that you almost can’t believe human hands made it? Let alone by colored pencils? If you have, they probably used Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils to make it. Apart from a select few alternatives, Prismacolor’s quality is unrivaled.
  • 72-Piece ARTEZA Colored Pencils $41.99 $35.68
    • Notice how I mentioned “apart from a select few alternatives?” ARTEZA colored pencils are one of those few. While I recommend Prismacolor if you can afford the expense, ARTEZA colored pencils are more than capable of creating beautiful artwork at a fraction of the cost of Prismacolor. If you’re strapped for cash but want a new set, get the ARTEZA Colored Pencils while they’re on a Black Friday art supply deal.

Pens & Ink Sets

  • 6-Piece SAKURA Pigma Micron Pens $20.06 $11.62
    • If you’re a fan of fineliner pens, you’ve probably already heard of SAKURA Pigma Micron pens, as they’re (in my opinion) the best fineliner pens out there for a reasonable price. Currently, you can get a set of 6 (01 Point) on a Black Friday sale for just over $11. If you’re not familiar with them, you can check out my Pigma Micron Pen review.
  • 120-Piece ARTEZA Inkonic Fineliners $57.60 $40.80
    • If you’re looking for a wider range of colors, your next bet is the 120-piece fineliner set currently on sale by ARTEZA. With the wide array of colors available in this set, you can create just about anything you set your mind to.

Painting Sets

  • Watercolor
    • GenCrafts Watercolor Paint Palette $44.97 $27.87
      • If you’re looking for a quality watercolor paint set, look no further than the GenCrafts Watercolor Paint Palette. If you’re a cheapskate like me, you’ve probably discovered cheap watercolors suck. If not, let me save you the trouble of buying a dollar-store brand and telling you that they just don’t work the way you want. If you want to create quality paintings, get quality paint.
    • 12-Piece Derwent Watercolour Pencils $27.49 $18.30
      • I’ve only used watercolor pencils a few times, but it’s a blast! If you’re looking for a fun new medium or just looking to restock your supplies, Derwent’s watercolor pencils are on a great Black Friday deal right now.
    • Derwent 72-Piece Watercolor Ink Pencils $215.49 $94.52
      • Derwent is one of the best brands for watercolor pencils, so when I saw this 56% off black Friday deal, I had to include it. This set has an incredible 4.8 stars on Amazon, with nearly 8,000 posted reviews.
  • Acrylics
    • Arteza Acrylic Paint Set $57.00 $42.99
      • I typically work with watercolor when I paint, but acrylics are my next favorite. And ARTEZA is your brand if you’re looking for a set. This set has 4.8 stars on Amazon, and offers 60 different colors to work with.
    • Liquitex Acrylic Paints 10-60% Off
      • If you’re an acrylic painter, you’ve probably heard of Liquitex. Their acrylic paints are the go-to for many painters, and this Black Friday, they’ve put their acrylic paints anywhere from 10% up to 60% off. Most are around the 10-15% off range, but some colors, like Ultramarine Blue are a whopping 60% off right now. That’s a steal.
  • Oils
    • 1.25-oz Winsor & Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oil Colour 5%-64% Off
      • I can’t do oil paint. At least, not yet. It’s a learning curve for me. But if you’re an oil painter in need of some new colors or refill your stock, then you’ll be happy to see Winsor & Newton offer up to 64% off their Water Mixable Oils. As with the acrylics, most are going to be closer to the 22% off range, but you can pick up Prussian Blue for $4.12 right now.
    • Winsor & Newton Winton Oil Paint Starter Set $67.99 $39.60
      • If you’re new to oil painting and looking for a set to get started, Winsor & Newton are currently offering 42% off their starter set as a Black Friday art supply deal. Honestly, I’m considering getting this one myself since I’m interested in getting started with oil painting.

Copic Markers

  • Copic Marker 72-Piece Set (Classic) $575.28 $321.00
    • If you’re a fan of Copic markers, you already know they can be expensive. This makes it even more exciting to find a set on a Black Friday art supply deal. Copic markers can make beautiful artwork, and if you’re thinking about trying them out, now is the time to add them to your art supply collection. This 72-pack Copic Classic Marker Set is for anyone who is serious about getting into Copic Marker artwork.
  • Copic Marker 12-Piece Set (Basic) $95.88 $65.89
    • As I said above, alcohol markers, specifically Copic markers, are expensive. If you’d like to get started with Copic but don’t have the funds to get a full 72-piece Set, then the 12-piece is your next best bet. This Black Friday Copic Marker set has just enough to help you get started.
  • Copic Marker 6-Piece Set (Bold Primaries) $47.94 $29.81
    • Still can’t afford the 12-piece or are just looking to restock some basics? I’ve got you. You can also get a basic 6-piece Copic marker set of the primary colors for just under $30 right now. Trust me, when it comes to Copic, that’s a steal.
  • Ogeely Alcohol Markers 82-Piece Set $29.99 $17.49
    • “But wait,” you say. “What if I can barely afford the 6-piece Copic marker set, but I wanted more versatility?” Well, I’m glad you asked. Capitalism is a beautiful thing, and Copic is no longer the only decent alcohol marker on the market. This pack has 4.5 stars on Amazon and gives you a mind-blowing 82-piece set of alcohol markers for $25. If that’s not an epic Black Friday art supply deal, I don’t know what is.
  • Ohuhu Alcohol Markers 120-Piece Set $69.99 $55.99
    • Ohohu is one of the top recommended brands of alcohol markers available. Jazza has a thorough video that included Ohuhu as a finalist for the world’s best alcohol marker. Copic won, but Ohuhu was a close second.

Paper & Canvas

Drawing Tablets

  • 2021 Apple 12.9-inch iPad Pro (512GB) $1,199.00 $899.00
    • YIKES, you say. Yeah, I try to keep most things on my list on the cheaper end, but there’s no cheaping out if you want an iPad. This is a refurbished model, which is why it’s on such a good deal. I don’t have an iPad Pro, so I can’t speak for this personally. But I have a friend who swears this thing changed her entire life as a digital artist. If I could afford to upgrade to this, I’d do it in a heartbeat.
  • Wacom Intuos Pro Large $499.95 $402.14
    • Wacom is the brand of drawing tablet I use, and it’s great. Wacom is well-known as a leader in the drawing tablet business, so if you can get one on an awesome deal this Black Friday then I’d jump on it.
  • HUION KAMVAS Pro 13 $319.00 $209.25 (After coupon)
    • HUION is another well-known brand, but I can’t speak as much towards their quality. However, even outside of Black Friday, you can get this 13.3-inch drawing tablet for just $230 after the coupon offered on Amazon. If you’re looking for their latest model, the KAMVAS Pro 16 is only $279.00 right now after the available $100 off coupon.
  • One by Wacom (Medium) $99.95 $69.75
    • This is what I have and use personally! I’ve had absolutely zero issues with this tablet, and it’s currently on a great sale. $70 for a top-notch tablet is pretty hard to beat. Sure, you can find “cheaper” tablets from knock-off brands, but those things are often time bombs just waiting to break.

Artist Software

  • Adobe Photoshop (Creative Cloud Subscription) $599.88
    • During Prime Day, this was on a fantastic sale of 40% off for an annual subscription. With Black Friday being an even bigger deal than Prime Day, I could see it reaching even 50% off. It’s currently not on sale, but I’ll keep an eye out and update here as soon as I can if/when it eventually does.

Cameras

  • Sony ZV-1F Vlog Camera $499.00 $398.00
    • If you plan to (or currently do) record yourself drawing, painting, or creating other forms of art, then you’ve probably quickly realized that your phone just doesn’t quite cut it. Not for everything, anyway. The Sony ZV-1F has an Ultra-wide 20mm lens and a microphone that captures a clear voice.
  • Sony Alpha a6400 $899.99 $748.00
    • A compact mirrorless camera is known for excellent image quality and portability. Even with the black Friday deal on this camera, it’s probably a pricier option if you’re just a casual photographer. But hey, if you’ve got the money to spare.
  • Nikon Z 6II $1,996.95 $1,596.95
    • If you’re really serious about your photography, then you know what a good camera is capable of. The Nikon Z 6II can provide photographs that are the envy of photographers around you. If this goes on a Black Friday sale and photography is your passion (and you have the money, of course. Don’t break the bank), then I recommend the Nikon Z 6II.

Other Black Friday Art Supplies & Deals

  • Elice A3 Light Pad (13.5″ x 16.7″) $69.99 $49.99 (After coupon)
    • Artists typically use a light pad to make tracing an image easier. There are a lot of reasons you might do this, but a common one for painters is to get an image from sketching paper onto watercolor paper. You can also trace to help improve your skills as an artist by getting a feel for how shapes come together. Whatever your reason, you shouldn’t feel shame in utilizing tracing in the right way if it helps grow your skills.
  • Arrtx 24 Top Valve Action Acrylic Markers $27.99 $22.39
    • I was recently able to try Arrtx’s recently released Simptap Acrylic markers and was honestly impressed by their quality. You simply shake the marker, press the top of the pen, and then make great art. The ink flows well and it dries fast. I still plan to continue testing, but as of now, I feel pretty confident in recommending you check them out while they’re on a good sale. Here’s an Arrtx Instagram post of them showing them off.

As Thanksgiving approaches, I’ll be watching for any more Black Friday art supplies and deals you should expect to see on the big day. However, since I’m only one person, I always recommend taking a look at the reviews and comparing them to other products you see to make sure you’re getting the best deal.

Happy shopping, and have a great Black Friday!
