Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. As such, I found it appropriate to create a Valentine’s Day drawing in the spirit of the upcoming holiday! Something unique but not too complicated.
If you’re an artist who hasn’t gotten something for your special someone, making a Valentine’s Day drawing as a gift might be the solution!
Materials Used
For this Valentine’s Day heart drawing, I used the following art supplies:
- Paper – Pro Art 9×12 Sketchbook
- Mechanical Pencil – Pentel Twist-Erase III (For a light sketch of the heart)
- Kneaded Eraser – Prismacolor Kneaded Eraser (To remove any remaining pencil marks)
- Fine-Tip Pens – Sakura Micron Pens Set
Drawing an Abstract Heart for Valentine’s Day
There are many Valentine’s Day drawings out there, but here’s one that I think is original and not too complicated. An abstract drawing of a heart.
Even though this drawing is a bit older at this point, I still remember how it was made. You can use my drawing as a reference, but I highly recommend making something that is truly yours.
The process is so incredibly simple that I can describe it in two steps:
- Use a pencil to draw a heart shape lightly
- You can use a stencil if you want it to be a “perfect” heart. The most important thing, though, is to make the line light so it can be erased later
- Create abstract shapes within the outline
- You can do anything you want. If you like the style of this heart drawing but want more variety, You can visit my abstract drawings article for some more inspiration
That’s it. Really. And you could even make it easier if you’re creating it digitally, as most software has the option to mirror whatever you’re making. Krita, for example, which is the software I use, has a guide on using their mirror tool that can help you.
If you plan on making this a drawing gift for someone on Valentine’s Day, I recommend trying it out a few times to get the hang of it and decide on what you like most.
Other Easy Valentine’s Day Drawing Ideas
Not a fan of the abstract heart? No problem. Here are some other Valentine’s Day drawing ideas to get your creative juices flowing:
- An animal holding a sign that says something cute
- Ex: A bear holding a sign that says, “I can’t ‘bear’ to be without you”
- Planets and stars in the shape of a heart
- You could say or write something like, “My love for you is out of this world”
- A simple rose drawing
- You can use my rose and stem drawing page as a reference if you’d like. It’s hard to go wrong with drawing flowers. Alternatively, if you know their favorite flower, you could draw that instead!
- A drawing of two cats passing each other with their tails making the shape of a heart
- You could add the words “We’re purrfect for each other”
- A piece of toast with a heart on it popping out of a toaster
- Add the words “Without you, I’d be toast!”
